Nintendo 3DS Quick Review

Since its appearance at E3 in Los Angeles, the Nintendo 3DS has accumulated many rumors about its potential, stereoscopic design and capabilities. Also doubts were constant, caused mainly by the audacity shown by the large N, not something we should be surprised at this point in the film, but as we all know, it is inevitable for any technology enthusiast. Obviously this feeling of uncertainty is unbearable, so to remove the mystery, we wanted to check more closely the three-dimensional experience of the new Nintendo 3DS. Is it comfortable to play without glasses with this technology? You really work? Do not waste time and read on, we have all the answers to these and many more questions after the jump.

Quick View:

Clearly Nintendo has for the flag and Parallax Barrier 3D. Whether you ride a course console ARM11 dual core processor (an addition which is a big leap from its predecessor, the DSi), the matter is to highlight the innovative game mode, as they did with the Nintendo Wii. In fact, neither the list of technical specifications listed on the manufacturer's website can know exactly the brains of the machine, so the intentions are obvious: turn on and play, kid.

When you have it in your hands the first thing that attracts attention is its dimensions. The layered structure and display thicker than usual trick quickly, and only placing a DS Lite with her will be able to check their actual measurements: if it is even thinner! Exactly 134.6 x 73.6-x 21.5 millimeters versus 73.9 x 133 x 20.3 millimeters of the DS Lite. As we say, the top if it is thicker than normal, because the display is protected by a resin that offers greater resistance to impact and scratches, but still with a colorful design transparency mode (in the model Aqua Blue).

It's a shame that all the models shown by Nintendo in our appointment with the manufacturer were protected with a burglar basis, giving a thicker body and preventing proper closing and securing the device. Still, in the pictures you can see the two outer chambers, the left and right triggers, switch WiFi (802.11 b / g, no n), volume control, headphone connection, 3D depth adjustment, current input (surrounded by a gold connectors for loading the console in contact charging station), SD card slot and what looks to be an infrared port (could be to pass data from a DSi), leaving only the cartridge slot hidden by the annoying antiladrones protection

Games:

Although there are a lot of games, it's a shame we only see that Nintendo made a demo model with fully closed. By this we mean that functions as the much spoken multitasking (pressing the Home button and open Notepad as the game continued to run) were not available. Not even to take a little break with Start. We leave you with a list of games tested and our corresponding print:

Nintendogs + Cats: New version of the factory barking with which to continue stroking and pulling the ball to your pet. We noticed mainly three-dimensional effect when the dog approached the screen to give a loving lick.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time: Good graphics and fun point and shoot system supported in gyroscope. However, again we say that the mixture of the sensor and the 3D is complicated, as they keep the screen straight towards our eyes and move from side to side to shoot far not too easy (or comfortable).
Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D: Possibly one of the titles that draw attention graphically. The feeling was very good dimensional mode FPSs being smooth and perfectly matched with the 3D slider to its maximum position.
Kid Icarus: Uprising: A game that rises from the ashes and it does dramatically with all three dimensions. The character takes to the skies as the enemies appear on the screen, and this situation helps you get the 3D effect, but frantic movements and control system not for lefties (you need to control the stick with your left hand and move HUD with touch screen holding the stylus with your right hand) could cause dizziness effects appear over your head. In field missions things change, and the HUD control becomes a desperate camera movement not convincing from minute one.
Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition: Possibly the best title to enjoy the experience of the three dimensions. The game will also choose two game cameras, a "2D" (which will continue to offer three-dimensional effects) and another oblique squeeze the full potential of the screen. Excellent graphics and a semiautomatic mode combos (see big buttons to press on the touch screen) could be key to becoming a purchase insured for all types of users.
Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D: The only game shown in video form. It was just a sample with which to see the next of Hideo Kojima, but at least it has served to check the multimedia capabilities of the console. In playback we did not get a suitable calibration point with which to enjoy a crisp playback with 3D effect.
The truth is that the impressions are quite varied. On one hand, we have games like Nintendogs or video of Metal Gear not get the desired effect, however, others like Resident Evil and Street Fighter look great. On the issue of screen calibration, we proved that equally affects all games, having to regulate differently to a game and another. This problem was solved with a stored profile, but considering that the mechanism is completely manual, completely rule out this type of solution
